I am pleased to have the opportunity to share some of the reasons I love Tallahassee – and Leadership Tallahassee!!
Soon after going into real estate sales in the late 70’s I joined the Chamber so I could become aware of issues and accomplishments in our community. The more I learned the more excited I was to become involved in various aspects.
My first major effort was in the early 80’s to lead a successful fundraising effort for Refuge House, and the fulfillment that effort brought was the beginning of my reaching out to other worthy causes. This led me to accept other opportunities as a director & past president of Tallahassee Board of Realtors; trustee & past chair of TMH Foundation, campaign chair and director of UWBB, Choose Tallahassee and Second Harvest, to name a few. Serving as a director of the Chamber for many years was a great way to really get immersed in issues and opportunities. Real estate sales was for me, the perfect career to allow me to be involved the community and also be better informed as we often encounter folks who are considering Tallahassee as their next home – either for work or retirement – and the more we know about what’s happening and what is planned, the better job we do of ‘selling’ Tallahassee’s amenities.
My involvement in the Chamber led me to Leadership Tallahassee, Class 21 (BEST CLASS EVER) which was a huge education for me! I was surprised to learn so much about our community after having lived here for so many years. The friends I made through that 9-month series are very dear to me, so lots of fringe benefits in participating in LT.
None of us reaches success individually, and I certainly was blessed to have been reared in a loving home which gave me a good basis to succeed as an adult. One of the best attributes of Tallahassee is the small town feel and friendliness and yet we have something for everyone. I can’t imagine living anywhere else.
Thanks for letting me share. Virginia Glass, Realtor/retired, Coldwell Banker Hartung and Noblin, Inc.
